Supreme Court rejects PIL seeking removal of Mathura's Shahi Idgah Mosque

In a recent development, the Supreme Court has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Mehak Maheshwari, urging the removal of Mathura's Shahi Idgah Mosque and its handover to Hindus. The petitioner argued that the site of the Idgah Mosque is the birthplace of Lord Shri Krishna, asserting the right of Hindus to worship at that location. However, the Supreme Court refused to entertain the petition, affirming the decision of the Allahabad High Court, which had also rejected a similar plea earlier. The apex court emphasized that it concurred with the Allahabad High Court's determination.

Mehak Maheshwari had initially approached the Allahabad High Court with the same petition, but faced disappointment as the court cited existing cases on the matter and deemed a separate hearing unnecessary. Undeterred, Maheshwari challenged this decision in the Supreme Court, which has now upheld the dismissal. This legal battle is part of a longstanding dispute over ownership rights concerning a total of 13.37 acres of land in Mathura, where the Shri Krishna Janmasthan holds rights to 10.9 acres, and the Shahi Idgah Mosque claims ownership of two and a half acres.
